Surfers for Autism
Founded in 2008 by a handful of South Florida surfers who realized the impact of surfing’s healing magic on children diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Since that first event, held at Deerfield Beach, Fla., SFA has reached countless participants, families, volunteers, communities, and supporters. With the combined effort, support, understanding, and inspiration of those involved, the magic that comes from loving encouragement and soothing surf is created.
Surfers for Autism has been honored with proclamations by local cities and counties over the years, and the group has been featured in Autism Parenting magazine and in a 2010 “Make a Difference” segment on the NBC Nightly News.
Today SFA hosts events all over the state and abroad. Nearly every event on our tour maxes out by reaching our limit of 200 registered participants, 350 volunteers and as many as 5,000 supporters packing local beaches to witness the wonder and transformation first-hand.
Sponsorship and Marketing Opportunities
Surfers for Autism is a registered 501©3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to unlock the potential of children and young adults with autism and other developmental delays through the introduction to the sport of surfing. Our focus is to eliminate stigma through public education and awareness and to unite communities through volunteerism. Through fundraising and partnerships, we can obtain necessary funds to fuel our programs.
By supporting Surfers for Autism through monetary and in-kind donations, sponsors can help us reach communities throughout Florida and Georgia. We provide an all-inclusive, free surfing event for our participants and their families. Through our twelve years of hosting events, we have reached many thousands of children and young adults on the autism spectrum.
Sponsorship contributions cover the cost of hosting our surf events to all the cities the events are hosted in. And thanks to our sponsors, this keeps the events free of charge to our families.
Companies that invest through monetary and/or volunteerism contributions become a part of our Surfers for Autism family. With autism affecting 1 in 59 children (CDC 2018), companies that support autism related charities and organizations show they are aware of the growing needs of this community, are positively viewed upon. Also, our families and volunteers have a great appreciation for our sponsors.
